Ashton Mining Reports State of Arkansas Reports Further Results from the Crater of Diamonds.


VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 14, 1997-- Ashton Mining of Canada (TSE/ME:ACA ACA - Application Control Architecture ) The State of Arkansas has reported the third set of results of diamond sorting from its testing program on the Crater of Diamonds near Murfreesboro, Arkansas Murfreesboro is a city in Pike County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,764 at the 2000 census. The city is the county seat of Pike County.GR6

The recent results are from five trenches in the central and southern portions of the lamproite pipe. Three stones with an aggregate weight of 0.228 carat CARAT, weights. A carat is a weight equal to three and one-sixth grains, in diamonds, and the like. Jac. L. Dict. See Weight.  were recovered from a combined sample of 2547 tons.

This work brings the total lamproite treated to a total of 7139 tons. This material contained 160 stones weighing 36.3 carats, for an average indicated content of 0.5 carat per 100 tons. These results to date fall short of the diamond content which would be required to support a commercial mining operation.

The sampling program is continuing to test remaining portions of the pipe, and will be complete by mid to late February.
