The State of Arkansas has reported the fourth and final set of results of diamond sorting from its Phase II testing program on the Crater of Diamonds near Murfreesboro, Arkansas Murfreesboro is a city in Pike County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,764 at the 2000 census. The city is the county seat of Pike County.GR6 Crater of Diamonds State Park is located just to the south. . The recent results are from six trenches in the central and eastern portions of the lamproite pipe. Forty-seven stones with an aggregate weight of 9.594 carats were recovered from a combined sample of 1,891.52 tons. The bulk sampling program of Phase II evaluation is now complete. The total quantity of lamproite treated during the program was 8,819 tons. This material contained 207 stones weighing 45.75 carats, for an average indicated diamond content of 0.5 carat CARAT, weights. These results fall significantly short of the diamond content which would be required to support a commercial mining operation.
