Ashton's future remains unclear in England re-mix.


TWICKENHAM top brass have authorised the recruitment of a teammanager and another specialist coach - but England boss Brian Ashton's future remains unclear.

Rob Andrew Christopher Robert Andrew, MBE, (born 18 February 1963 in Richmond, Yorkshire) nicknamed "Squeaky", is a former English rugby union footballer and currently Director of Elite Rugby at the RFU. Martin Osborne Johnson CBE (born March 9, 1970) is a former England rugby union player and captain.
 a firm favourite to become manager.

Mike Catt and Austin Healey, meanwhile, have both been linked to a coaching role.

England's current coaching staff is headed by Ashton, with John Wells (forwards) and Mike Ford (defence) providing front-line support.

Ashton always wanted a managerial appointment, yet one on the administrative side that would not become involved in matters such as selection.

Phil de Glanville Philip Ranulph de Glanville (born on October 1 1968 in Loughborough) is a former English rugby union player who played at centre for Bath and England. Rugby career  is known to be his preferred choice.

It is impossible to envisage Johnson playing anything other than a hands-on role, although exact job description details have still to be thrashed out.
