Ashland creates infusion molding lab.

Ashland Composite Polymers, Dublin, Ohio, has added a dedicated infusion molding laboratory to its R&D facilities. Ashland says infusion molding (or vacuum infusion) is rapidly gaining popularity as an alternative to hand lay-up and spray-up because it reduces styrene emissions, improves product consistency and physical properties (relative to spray-up), and reduces costs (depending on part size). Boat builders, in particular, reportedly are switching to infusion molding or considering a switch. Infusion molding uses a single mold half that is sealed with an air-tight film.
