Ashiana collective.

Ashiana, Manavi's transitional home, is a safe space for South Asian women and their children who have been displaced by violence. Since 1997, Ashiand has been providing women and their children with secure, rent-free housing while they work towards independent living. Since January 2006, 9 women and 5 children have resided at Ashiana.

This year's annual party at Ashiana, organized for Ashiana residents, Manavi staff and the dedicated Ashiana volunteers was a huge success.

The committed Ashiana volunteers have continued to provide residents with ongoing support during evenings and weekends. They assist with transportation, groceries, interpretation, economic empowerment workshops and workshops on financial planning. As of November 2006 one of our volunteers, who is also a social worker, has been working with the residents on life skills, personal conflicts and anger management issues.
