Asda strike threat.THE threat of a strike by thousands of workers at supermarket giant Asda came a step closer last night after last-ditch talks failed to resolve a row over collective bargaining. The GMB GMB (in Britain) General, Municipal and Boilermakers (Trade Union) union said it was moving towards a ballot of workers in distribution centres which service Asda stores across the country. They include a depot in Warrington. Senior officials will seek authority from the union's executive on Monday for an official strike ballot in protest at the threat to end a collective bargaining agreement The contractual agreement between an employer and a Labor Union that governs wages, hours, and working conditions for employees and which can be enforced against both the employer and the union for failure to comply with its terms. at the company's depot in Dartford, Kent. National officer Jude Brimble said: "They have terminated collective bargaining in stores, conducted illegal anti-union campaigns in Tyne and Wear Tyne and Wear, former metropolitan county, NE England. Created in the 1974 local government reorganization, the county embraced the Newcastle upon Tyne conurbation and comprised five metropolitan districts: Newcastle upon Tyne, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, and refused to pay a bonus to 100,000 low-paid employees in spite of making pounds 650m in profits.
