The first year for the SYNCHRONY family of backbone and access products established its wide appeal and saw it installed across the world at a broad range of customer sites from carriers and commercial to government and multinational organizations.

In addition, a virtual "Around the World" tour and multimedia presentation at the company's Booth No. 4745 will offer a behind-the-scenes look at how the travel industry utilizes networking, the art of moving voice, data and images from desktop to desktop to provide first-class service to its customers. On Thursday, April 4, at 3:30 p.m. a raffle will be held at Booth No. 4745 for a real-time trip to Switzerland. The winner need not be present.

The dramatic result can be seen in the state-of-the-art Ascom Timeplex booth, whose walls feature colorful murals depicting an ethereal landscape filled with larger-than-life people striding across the globe and connecting in a variety of fanciful ways. The "Around the World" multimedia show uses the travel industry to highlight networking products, such as the Synchrony(TM) family that drive the modern-day travel business. It takes viewers around the world in seven minutes providing panoramic views of popular vacation destinations ranging from the sandy beaches of Hawaii and snow-capped Snow´-capped`

Demonstrating how heavily Ascom Timeplex travel-related customers, such as Galileo Reservation Systems, Dollar Rent-A-Car, ITT-Sheraton Hotels and Swiss Air, depend on their networks for optimum business performance, the video reveals how businesses have adapted to the changing network environments.

One of the presentation's key points is how businesses and organizations have evolved from older legacy applications to newer applications. The travel industry, like most businesses, continues to use older legacy connection-oriented networks, such as SNA/SDLC, by consolidating legacy applications with newer LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  applications onto a single LAN internetwork. However, since legacy applications are often treated as LAN applications, they do not receive the quality of service that is required unless the innovative Synchrony collection of circuit, frame and cell switching and access products is utilized to address the needs of the travel industry.
