NetQoS is the fastest-growing provider of performance analysis products and services for Global 2000 networks.

"NetQoS SuperAgent and ReporterAnalyzer are enabling us to better understand what is happening on our global network," said Danny Klone, director of IT for Ascent Media. "Rather than spending hours manually tracking down the source of a network or application problem with very little context, we now rely on these products to constantly monitor the traffic and automatically alert us to problems. As problems occur, we can easily call up a report and obtain real-time and historical information for troubleshooting."

Ascent, based in Santa Monica Santa Monica (săn`tə mŏn`ĭkə), city (1990 pop. 86,905), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1886. Tourism and retailing are important, and the city has motion-picture, biotechnology, and software industries. , Calif., chose NetQoS SuperAgent to monitor end-user response times for key applications and to troubleshoot problems -- without desktop or server agents. For instance, Ascent's enterprise resource planning See ERP.

(application, business) Enterprise Resource Planning - (ERP) Any software system designed to support and automate the business processes of medium and large businesses.
(ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) An integrated information system that serves all departments within an enterprise. Evolving out of the manufacturing industry, ERP implies the use of packaged software rather than proprietary software written by or for one customer. ) application for work order, billing, and scheduling drives its business of providing creative and technical media services to the media and entertainment industries. SuperAgent passively measures and analyzes application response times for all users of the ERP application, compares the response time against intelligent baselines, then automatically investigates the cause of problems as they occur.

SuperAgent isolates performance problems to the application, network, or server. For example, using SuperAgent with its large Citrix(R) server farm, Ascent can now determine whether an application performance problem is between a Citrix server and the user or a Citrix server and a database.

Ascent selected NetQoS ReporterAnalyzer to monitor hundreds of WAN interfaces and discover which applications are using bandwidth, who is using the bandwidth (which facilities and users), and when. By knowing which applications and users consume bandwidth, Ascent can make timely and cost-effective decisions regarding network troubleshooting and capacity planning Determining the required future configuration of hardware and software for a network, datacenter or Web site. There are numerous capacity planning tools on the market used to monitor and analyze the performance of the current hardware and software. .

In addition, ReporterAnalyzer enables Ascent to leverage its existing investment in Cisco equipment. ReporterAnalyzer works by capturing a rich set of traffic statistics exported by Cisco IOS Cisco IOS (originally Internetwork Operating System) is the software used on the vast majority of Cisco Systems routers and all current Cisco network switches. IOS is a package of routing, switching, internetworking and telecommunications functions tightly integrated with a (R) NetFlow on routers and switches. By enabling NetFlow on a few key aggregation routers and deploying ReporterAnalyzer -- a process which took just a few hours -- Ascent is able to easily extract and view the data needed for detailed traffic analysis.

ReporterAnalyzer's ability to scale to Ascent's enterprise network and store historical information were additional factors in Ascent's decision to deploy the product. ReporterAnalyzer is designed to handle the volume of NetFlow data typical in the world's largest networks, providing real-time visibility into enterprise-wide network traffic and access to more than a year's worth of data.

"Optimal application performance over the WAN is critical to Ascent's business," said Joel Trammell, NetQoS CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. . "By using SuperAgent and ReporterAnalyzer, Ascent now has insight into application and network behavior that will enable it to optimize performance for its global employees."

NetQoS recently announced the availability of the NetQoS Performance Center, a no-charge management portal that integrates data from NetQoS' products to offer network engineers, operations staff, IT managers and executives a faster way to diagnose performance problems, monitor SLA (1) (StereoLithography Apparatus) See 3D printing.
