Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization Is Dissatisfied with Planet Toys Temporary "Stop Sale" on CSI Fingerprint Examination Kit.

ADAO Product Testing and Meeting Leads to Stop Sale to All Retailers; More Action Is Needed

REDONDO BEACH, Calif. -- The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO), an organization dedicated to serving as the voice of asbestos victims, today announced that it is dissatisfied with Planet Toys issuing only a temporary "stop sale" limited to the CSI Fingerprint Examination Kit. ADAO agrees with CBS' recent request to Planet Toys to remove from all shelves and temporarily stop all sales of both the CSI Fingerprint Examination Kit and the CSI Field Kit "until we are all in agreement with the testing, and most importantly, the product's safety".

In late November, ADAO unveiled research showing evidence of asbestos in numerous everyday consumer products, including the Planet Toys "CSI Fingerprint Examination Kit". ADAO reported these findings based on an 18 month study that was confirmed by three independent, government certified labs.

"ADAO is dissatisfied with Planet Toys for issuing the stop sale of the CSI Fingerprint Examination Kit," stated Linda Reinstein, ADAO Co-Founder and Executive Director. "We feel this is not enough; a mandatory recall of both kits needs to be put in place. It has been our top priority, since the results of our testing showed asbestos in this toy, to inform consumers about our findings and the dangers of asbestos exposure. It is unfortunate that many of the CSI Fingerprint Examination Kits have already made their way into shoppers' hands and we are following the State of Connecticut Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell's guidance that 'if your child has this toy or if it's been purchased for holiday gift giving, please bring it back to the retailer immediately and request a refund or store credit.' It is our hope that today's 'stop sale' announcement will help prevent further distribution of this toy. However, we are also hopeful that the State of Connecticut's swift action to issue a statewide recall will lead the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to promptly issue a mandatory nationwide recall, to ensure that this toy and other products containing asbestos are no longer available."
