U.S. Senate Urges Surgeon General The U.S. Surgeon General is charged with the protection and advancement of health in the United States. Since the 1960s the surgeon general has become a highly visible federal public health official, speaking out against known health risks such as tobacco use, and promoting disease  to Warn and Educate About the Dangers of Asbestos Exposure

April 1, 2008 was designated as the beginning of National Asbestos Awareness Week by the United State Senate. The U.S. Senate passed S. Res. 462 which states "that the Senate urges the Surgeon General, as a public health issue, to warn and educate people that asbestos exposure may be hazardous to their health."

"It's not complicated, education and prevention saves lives."
