Asarco Announces Changes In Operating Divisions.


NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 6, 1995--Management changes in the operating divisions of ASARCO ASARCO American Smelting and Refining Company  Incorporated (NYSE NYSE

:AR) were announced today by Richard de J. Osborne, Asarco chairman, president and chief executive officer.

Terry E. Erskine, currently general manager of Asarco's Missouri Lead Division, has been named general manager at Asarco's Ray Complex, succeeding Thomas E. Scartaccini. Scartaccini has been named assistant to the executive vice president at Asarco's Copper Operations in Tucson, Arizona Tucson (pronounced /ˈtusɑn/, Spanish: Tucsón [tuk'son] .

Darrell C. Himmesoete, currently manager of Hayden Operations at the Ray Complex, has been named general manager of the Missouri Lead Division, succeeding Erskine. Joseph A. Wilhelm, currently operations manager See datacenter manager.  of the Hayden Smelter at the Ray Complex, has been named manager of Hayden Operations, succeeding Himmesoete.

Erskine, 50, has been general manager of Asarco's Missouri Lead Division since 1990. He joined Asarco in 1971 as a metallurgist at the Mission Unit in Arizona. He has managed mine and mill operations for Asarco in Idaho, Colorado and Montana and in 1983 was transferred to Australia on a technical interchange program with Mount Isa Mines The Mount Isa copper, lead zinc and silver mines near Mount Isa, Queensland, Australia are part of the Xstrata mining company. Scartaccini, 58, became general manager of the Ray Complex in 1993. Prior to that he had been general manager of Asarco's Southwest Mining Department since 1982. Scartaccini joined Asarco as a mining engineer at the Company's Mission Unit after graduation from the New Mexico School of Mines in 1961 with a degree in mining engineering. He recently completed a term as president of the Arizona Mining Association.

Himmesoete, 47, was named operations manager of Asarco's Hayden Unit in 1991 after serving as smelter manager of the Hayden plant for four years. He joined Asarco in 1970 as a metallurgist at the company's El Paso plant after earning a bachelor of science degree in metallurgical engineering from Montana College of Science and Technology.

Wilhelm, 43, was maintenance manager at Asarco's El Paso copper refinery before being named operations manager at the Hayden smelter. He holds a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio.
