"Our customers have indicated they need a product that will allow them to realize the performance benefits promised by Ethernet and Fast Ethernet technologies, regardless of what platform they're using," said Paul Smith, vice president of marketing at Asante Technologies. "We developed NetDoubler for NT to give users another option for increased network performance."

NetDoubler for Windows NT Server enhances network performance by addressing restrictions inherent in both the NT server and Macintosh client. NetDoubler operates as a network service on the NT server, running alongside NT's File Service for Macintosh.

connections with the NT server, NetDoubler for Windows NT Server transparently switches to the faster and more efficient TCP/IP protocol during file transfers. The NT server version of NetDoubler works in conjunction with the NetDoubler Macintosh client to accelerate both ends of a network connection.

The NetDoubler family of products has accelerated performance for networks in a variety of industries, including video, imaging, post-production, prepress and publishing, where transfer of large files is common. The NetDoubler Macintosh client software was initially released by Asante last April along with a Macintosh server version.

This was followed in September by the release of NetDoubler for uShare and CanOPI from IPT IPT - IP Telephony , supporting Sun and AIX Unix servers. NetDoubler support will also be provided by Xinet in K-AShare, an AppleShare solution on Unix, and FullPress, Xinet's OPI (Open Prepress Interface) An extension to PostScript that provides color separations. It was developed by Aldus Corporation, which was later acquired by Adobe.  server software for prepress networks.
