) today announced the release of new Gigabit Ethernet switches. The IntraCore(TM) 3624 and 3648 Series are the most powerful, flexible family of workgroup switches. This series gives user's greater flexibility by letting them configure the switch exactly how they want it--to fit either a new or existing network infrastructure.

Protecting Network Investments

The Intricate 3624 and 3648 Series switches can be tailored with hardware and software to precisely match a network manager's needs--today and in the future.

--Start with a base configuration of a 24-port or 48-port 10/100 switch and 2 combo copper/SFP gigabit uplinks.

--Choose from 2 different auto selecting dual gigabit uplinks with copper or small GBIC (GigaBit Interface Converter) A hardware module used to attach network devices to fiber-based transmission systems such as Fibre Channel and Gigabit Ethernet. The GBIC converts the serial electrical signals to serial optical signals and vice versa.  for fibre connections.

--Deploy multimedia services (voice, video, audio, and telephony) throughout the network with multi-service technologies: IP multicast with IGMP (Internet Group Multicast Protocol) The protocol that governs the management of multicast groups in a TCP/IP network. To sign up for a multicast group, a Host Membership Report is sent by a user's machine to its nearest routers, which forward that data to , multiple priority queues, and 64 VLANs.

--Prioritize traffic via various means including 802.1P, VLAN See virtual LAN.
