 networking products, today announced the promotion of Tommy Leung to the position of vice president of engineering at Asante.

Holder of a patent in Asante's award-winning stackable 100TX Fast Ethernet hub design, as well as in DSP (1) (Digital Signal Processor) A special-purpose CPU used for digital signal processing applications (see definition #2 below). It provides ultra-fast instruction sequences, such as shift and add, and multiply and add, which are commonly used in math-intensive  modems and multiplex wiring, Leung brings extensive technology development and management experience to his new post. He is being promoted from the position of vice president of technology, for which Leung headed the development effort responsible for the release of Asante's successful Fast Ethernet product line and its first switch product (ReadySwitch 5104). Leung joined Asante in 1994.

Prior to his work at Asante, Leung was the founder and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of DataTrek Corporation, a company specializing in DSP-based modems, small form factor OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  modems and Ethernet adapter products. He was also director of corporate engineering at CTS (1) (Clear To Send) The RS-232 signal sent from the receiving station to the transmitting station that indicates it is ready to accept data. Contrast with RTS.

 Corporation, where he was instrumental in developing the company's automotive electronics, hybrid micro-electronics and wireless communication products. He also started the data-communications division at CTS.

In his new role at Asante, Leung oversees the engineering teams responsible for the company's multiple product lines, including switches, Fast Ethernet and 10Mbps Ethernet products, as well as OEM projects and Asante's new web-based network management and network acceleration software.
