As a result of the grant from Asante, students at San Lorenzo Valley will be able to access the arts through various Internet Web sites, while learning and using the most current technology. San Lorenzo Valley has had to rely solely on fundraisers and donations to establish their network infrastructure. "The grant from Asante will get Poplar Bridge Elementary up and running," said Gail Swor, principal of Poplar Bridge, another 1996 grant winner. "Most schools only have one network connection per room; Poplar Bridge will have five connections per classroom, which will enable all teachers to have access to e-mail and the Internet." This is the second year that Asante has initiated a grant program for K-12 schools. Any K-12 school throughout the country is eligible to apply for an Asante grant. Recipients are chosen by a panel of educators, whose decisions are based on the school's proposal, its vision of how the grant will help improve the school, and the school's basic need for networking products. Grant recipients receive a combination of Asante networking solutions that best fits their needs.
