Chemical companies Asahi Kasei, Osaka, Japan, and DuPont, Wilmington, DE, will build a resin plant in China to capitalize on Cap´i`tal`ize on`

 the world's fastest growing market. The two companies will establish a production and sales joint venture in June or July and build a plant in the eastern province of Jiangsu to produce acetal acetal /ac·e·tal/ (as´e-t'l)

. The plant is scheduled to start production by Spring 2004 and have an additional production capacity of 20,000 tons, which will eventually rise to 60,000 tons. The total investment in the venture is expected to reach $75 million.

Acetal, which is also known as POM, copolymer resins have a high resistance to abrasion abrasion /abra·sion/ (ah-bra´zhun)

 and heat and are used as an alternative to metal in cars, household appliances and electronics. The demand for the resins in China is currently estimated at more than 100,000 tons per year.
