Asahi Glass to dispose of Asahi Komag joint venture+.


TOKYO, Nov. 27 Kyodo

Asahi Glass Co. said Monday it has decided to dispose of To determine the fate of; to exercise the power of control over; to fix the condition, application, employment, etc. of; to direct or assign for a use.

 Asahi Komag Corp., a joint venture with Komag Inc. of the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  and Vacuum Metallurgical Co. of Japan, by March 31 next year.

The joint venture, based in Yonezawa, Yamagata Yonezawa (米沢市; -shi) is a city located in Yamagata, Japan.

As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 94,227 and the density of 171.72 persons per km². The total area is 548.74 km².

The city was founded on April 1, 1889.
 Prefecture, has manufactured and distributed aluminum magnetic memory disks since its establishment in 1987. However, competitive product pricing has intensified, deteriorating its profitability, Asahi Glass said.

It said its group will attempt to find new jobs for Asahi Komag's 400 or so employees.

Asahi Komag is owned 50% by Komag, 40% by a wholly owned unit of Asahi Glass and 10% by a unit of Vacuum Metallurgical.

Asahi Glass said it has no plans at the moment to revise its earnings projections for the current year to March 31, 2001, because it has yet to fix the sum of losses from the liquidation The collection of assets belonging to a debtor to be applied to the discharge of his or her outstanding debts.
