Asahi, Daiwa banks to announce integration deal Fri.


TOKYO, Sept. 20 Kyodo

Asahi Asahi (朝日 or 旭) means "morning sun" in Japanese. It is a name of several places in Japan:

 Bank will announce Friday afternoon their agreement to let the former join a holding company to be created by Daiwa and two Osaka-based regional banks by March 2002, bank sources said Thursday.

The presidents of the two banks will hold a press conference in Osaka to announce the deal, the sources said.

The holding company, which will involve Osaka-based regional lenders Kinki Osaka Bank and Nara Bank, would be the fifth-largest Japanese banking group with total assets of about 50 trillion One thousand times one billion, which is 1, followed by 12 zeros, or 10 to the 12th power. See space/time.
