If you had told me a month ago that Alistair Campbell would be sitting in my old dressing room at the Custom's House in South Shields, I would have said it's not possible.

But there he was, preparing for the first night of his One Man Show that is now going on tour. The irony is that I played Fairy Narcissus in panto, and Fairy Narcissus, while she was convinced she was the prettiest and by far the cleverest of her sisters, was still undone because good overcomes evil.

My role was to spin the web of deceit that ensnared the Princess into pricking her finger on a spinning wheel. The total confidence Mr Campbell exudes should be tempered with the knowledge that neither the public nor a wicked fairy would trust him as far as they can spin him. Narcissus's downfall was inevitable, as I fear will his be.
