As VoIP Enters Next Phase, Worldwide Potential for Semiconductors Providers Will Reach $2.4 Billion by 2009, IDC Predicts.


FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- As VoIP is about to shed its early image and kick off a new phase in the market's evolution, IDC forecasts the worldwide VoIP semiconductor market to grow over $2.4 billion in 2009, with a compound annual growth rate of 38.9% for 2004-2009. However, both opportunities and threats are emerging for current semiconductors selling into VoIP systems.

"With basic product line ups complete, VoIP equipment vendors must look for opportunities to differentiate their offering and deliver tailored solutions," said Ian Eigenbrod, senior research analyst with IDC's Semiconductor program. "This need is creating new design-in opportunities and is ushering in Noun 1. ushering in - the introduction of something new; "it signalled the ushering in of a new era"
