, N.J. As in previous years, Borders has pledged a portion of the proceeds from sales to the Festival; the 2002 donation totals over $30,000, underscoring the most successful year yet. Borders supports the Festival's effort to continue to provide a venue at which poetry assumes a place at the center of the public's imaginative and emotional life.

"Borders always looks forward to participating in the Dodge Festival to serve as official bookseller and offer visitors and poets easy on-site access to a varied selection of poetry titles," said Mike Spinozzi, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of Borders Group. "By giving back a portion of proceeds generated by Festival sales, we hope to help keep the Dodge Poetry Festival a thriving, cultural celebration year after year."

"It is a pleasure to thank Borders, on behalf of the 2002 Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival, for providing an extraordinarily well-selected and well-stocked array of books, CDs, videos and literary magazines," said Jim Haba, director of the Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival. "Total sales continue to increase dramatically with each biennial Festival--this year, in some instances, Borders sold-out of all existing copies of a title. Such sharp, steady increases should persuade publishers that the interest in books of poetry far exceeds conventional projections."

Operating both a main book tent stocked with over 500 titles, as well as a signing tent, Borders provided a full-service bookstore presence throughout the four days. The Festival was staffed primarily by employees of the Borders locations in Bridgewater and Livingston, N.J., though staff members from the Pennsylvania area Borders stores also lent helping hands.

Bordersstores.com, Borders' store information site, featured the Dodge Poetry Festival throughout the month of September. Included on the site was a listing of participating poets with links to more information on their work. The site also housed an exclusive essay by current Poet Laureate Billy Collins in which he discussed the event's unique importance stating, "surely, a worthwhile goal would be to increase the audience for poetry so that its readers outnumber the people writing it, and that is exactly what this festival is doing."
