With TV Guide about to launch as a new, full-size full-color magazine, some of the biggest names in television today are helping to usher in a new era by paying tribute to the magazine's 52-year history. The magazine is creating a series of nine cover shots for the final digest issue, featuring contemporary stars re-reenacting some of its memorable covers from the past half-century.

"The reason this idea works so well is that people have an instant connection with our magazine and the images and personalities that have graced our covers," said Ian Birch, editor in chief, TV Guide magazine. "Putting a contemporary twist on some of our most beloved stars and television memories is a perfect way to usher in a new and exciting chapter for TV Guide magazine."

The covers in the series, which are scheduled to hit newsstands October 6, include:

--Reba McEntire as Lucille Ball (from a set of covers published on Oct. 13, 2001)

--The cast of "Scrubs" as the cast of "M*A*S*H" (July 24, 1976)

The concept was brought to life by TV Guide's art and design team, which had a painstaking task taking the costuming, make-up and positioning of the original portraits and pictures and recreating everything--from the moods, facial expressions and overall scenes to the coloring, look and feel of the iconic covers. After the photography was completed, a computer simulation was drawn up so that the new photograph could be edited and touched up to evoke and pay tribute to the original.

"It feels very flattering to be a part of this very historic TV Guide cover," said Reba McEntire, recording artist and star of the WB's Reba. "And I feel very lucky to be chosen to portray a cover of one of my heroes, Lucille Ball."

Debuting with the October 17th issue, TV Guide, the leading weekly television entertainment and guidance magazine, will be transformed into a vibrant full-size, full-color magazine with more breaking news and features, more eye-catching photos, more insights and behind-the-scenes information on viewers' favorite shows and stars, and more reviews and recommendations.
