Portal Software Market Growth: 1998-2003 Since 1998, Delphi has watched the market for business portal software expand by a factor of 10x. "By the close of this year (2001), we forecast that the portal software market will reach US$737M, an overall increase of 82% over 2000," observes Reynolds. Market Leaders in the Early Going Delphi's research identified three generic categories of business portal software: Infrastructure - components of functionality for portal projects; Applications - pre-integrated packages that deliver much of a complete portal application; and portal Platforms - software that incorporates portal infrastructure and applications with other e-Business (Electronic-BUSINESS) Doing business online. The term is often used synonymously with e-commerce, but e-business is more of an umbrella term for having a presence on the Web. software. Overall, Delphi Group identifies 43 companies as participants in the portal software market. During the rapid growth of the past two years, a handful of companies have distinguished themselves as revenue leaders in their respective segments. Verity topped the group of Infrastructure software providers with 11.2% market share. Plumtree Software led in the Portal Applications segment with 12.8% market share.
