), announced that the company has signed a letter of intent to produce exhaust systems and catalytic converters in China.

Arvin signed the letter of intent with Shanghai Xian Hua Automotive Fittings Industry (Group) Company of Shanghai, China, on April 22, 1996, in Shanghai.

Shanghai Xian Hua is the leading producer of exhaust systems in China. Xian Hua primarily serves the joint venture of Shanghai Volkswagen, a combination of Volkswagen of Germany and Shanghai Automotive Industry The automotive industry is the industry involved in the design, development, manufacture, marketing, and sale of motor vehicles. In 2006, more than 69 million motor vehicles, including cars and commercial vehicles were produced worldwide.  Corp. (SAIC SAIC - http://saic.com. ). Xian Hua, a municipally-backed company, has been producing exhaust systems for the Shanghai Volkswagen Santana since the late 1980s. Arvin and Xian Hua will target the upcoming Regal project for Shanghai General Motors. They also expect to examine how, together, they might pursue opportunities of other global automakers joining the Chinese market.

Arvin, the leading original equipment exhaust supplier in the world, and Xian Hua, China's leading producer of exhaust systems, expect to undertake a feasibility study "A Feasibility Study" is an episode of the original The Outer Limits television show. It first aired on 13 April, 1964, during the first season. It was remade in 1997 as part of the revived The Outer Limits series with a minor title change.  over the course of the next six months. It is expected that Arvin would contribute product design expertise, global marketing power, as well as manufacturing and "world-class" quality systems technology support. Xian Hua would provide the joint operation with local marketing and management support and production facilities.
