), announced today that Arvin and Able Autopart Industries Company Limited have formed a new joint venture company to produce exhaust systems and catalytic converters in Southeast Asia Southeast Asia, region of Asia (1990 est. pop. 442,500,000), c.1,740,000 sq mi (4,506,600 sq km), bounded roughly by the Indian subcontinent on the west, China on the north, and the Pacific Ocean on the east. . The new company, Able-Arvin Company Limited, will be located just outside of Bangkok, Thailand.

Able is an original equipment automotive supplier based in Bangkok. Able and its affiliated joint venture firms produce stampings, fuel tanks, and brake and fuel lines for local automotive assemblers. Able is also the largest designer and manufacturer of automotive assembly jigs in Southeast Asia. Able exports these products to customers and markets around the world. Major customers for Able are Ford, Honda, Toyota, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, and Chrysler.

Arvin and Able will establish Southeast Asia's first "world class" exhaust facility. The company will initially produce exhaust systems for the new Auto Alliance Thailand (AAT Alpha-1-antitrypsin (AAT)

The exhaust systems, some of which will be exported throughout the world on one-ton pick-ups, will be produced to Arvin's world leading quality standards. The joint venture intends to serve the future requirements of all automakers in Thailand.

By the year 2000, annual volume is expected to reach one million units. The growth is also fueled by changes in emission control legislation. Thailand has recently required catalytic converters on all passenger cars and is expected to require converters on all light trucks within the next two to three years."
