Arvin Roll Coater Announces First in Industry ISO 14001 Certification.

Business Editors

COLUMBUS, Ind.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 21, 2000

Arvin, Inc. (NYSE:ARV), today announced that its Roll Coater Division has successfully achieved ISO 14001 certification at its Weirton, West Virginia, plant.

This milestone marks what is believed to be the first ISO 14001 certification awarded to a metal coil coater in North America. This achievement also marks the second Arvin facility within North America to receive the award. Arvin Purolator earned this honor in 1999.

ISO 14001 certification requires the creation and documented execution of a comprehensive environmental management system (EMS) aimed at compliance and improved environmental performance. An independent auditor must verify that an organization has implemented a functional EMS that meets all of the requirements of the International Standard. The Arvin Roll Coater Weirton plant was audited by the world-renowned ISO certifying firm, Environmental Resources Management Certification and Verification Services (ERM CVS).

Kelly Garbin, Accounts Manager of the National Coil Coaters Association, stated, "To the best of our association's knowledge, Arvin Roll Coater's successful completion of ISO 14001 certification marks a first for the industry in North America."

Arvin Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, V. William Hunt, commented, "This is an exciting day for both Arvin Roll Coater and our employees. We are pleased to be recognized for our commitment to protecting, promoting and educating our employees in environmental policies that benefit the world we live in." Hunt continued, "Arvin will continue to strive to be a leader in the implementation of systems and applications that will benefit the company, our employees, our communities, and the world."

Arvin Roll Coater President Donald E. Ebert added, "I take great pride in the effort and initiative put forth by our environmental team and our Weirton associates. Anytime an organization can claim `first on the continent', it reflects very favorably upon the proactive nature of its workforce. I am pleased to see Arvin Roll Coater forging ahead into an environmental leadership position."
