), The Dexter, Missouri Chamber of Commerce has awarded the "Outstanding Industry of the Year for 1999" to Arvin's plant located in Dexter, the company announced today.

"In deciding a winner, the Chamber of Commerce reviews the contributions Dexter manufacturers have made to the community over the years," said Janet Coleman, executive director of the Dexter Chamber of Commerce.

"Arvin Industries has been a part of the community for 25 years and, until now, has not been recognized for its contributions to Dexter," Ms. Coleman continued. "It is an excellent company to have in the community."

Tom Frazier, Operations Manager for the Dexter plant, accepted the award at a ceremony on February 5, 2000. Eighteen area manufacturers were considered for the award.

"This award is a tribute to Arvin's commitment to Dexter. We have a lot of respect for our employees, and are recognized as being a major supporter of community activities, including our public schools and the local March of Dimes

March of Dimes is the name of a United States health charity, whose mission is to improve the health of babies.

"Among other initiatives to open our doors to the community, we conduct tours of the plant for students and civic organizations," Frazier continued. "We sponsor several local sports teams and we work very closely with our city leaders and the Chamber of Commerce."

The Dexter plant has been in operation since 1975 and employs 570 area residents. The primary product is OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  exhaust assemblies for General Motors.
