Arvesta Corporation, San Francisco, Calif., announces the acquisition of EVEREST[R] Herbicide herbicide (hr`bəsīd'), chemical compound that kills plants or inhibits their normal growth. A herbicide in a particular formulation and application can be described as selective or nonselective. from Bayer CropScience of Monheim, Germany, conditioned upon approval by the Federal Trade Commission Federal Trade Commission (FTC), independent agency of the U.S. government established in 1915 and charged with keeping American business competition free and fair. The FTC has no jurisdiction over banks and common carriers, which are under the supervision of other governmental agencies. It has five members, not more than three of whom may be members of the same political party, appointed by the President, with the consent of the Senate, for seven-year terms. and the Canadian Competition Bureau. EVEREST is a selective post-emergence herbicide for early-season control of wild oats, green foxtail and other grassy weeds in spring wheat, durum wheat durum wheat: see wheat. and winter wheat. The sale of EVEREST is part of the requirements to which Bayer CropScience agreed with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission and the Canadian Competition Bureau as a condition of approval for Bayer to acquire Aventis CropScience.
