Arts centre boosted by Globe visit.


ST DONATS Art Centre has been given another boost with the announcement that it is to host the first open-air production in Wales by the Globe Theatre Company.

The news that the London-based Shakespearean actors will be performing at the venue follows hot on the heels of the announcement that threatened funding for the Vale of Glamorgan arts centre An art center or arts centre is distinct from an art gallery or art museum. An arts centre is a functional community centre with a specific remit to encourage arts practice and to provide facilities such as theatre space, gallery space, venues for musical performance,  may be reinstated.

An independent appeal panel recommended that an Arts Council of Wales The Arts Council of Wales (ACW) is an Assembly Sponsored Public Body, responsible for funding and developing the arts in Wales. It became accountable to the National Assembly for Wales on 1 July 1999 when responsibility was transferred from the Secretary of State for Wales.  decision to withdraw funding from the centre should be reversed.

A final decision will be made by the Arts Council of Wales on April 25. The withdrawal of the pounds 45,379 grant would have closed the centre.
