Artists on the move.

Colliers ABR, Inc. announced that the Association of Independent Colleges of Art & Design, Inc. (AICAD), a non-profit consortium of 36 leading art schools in the U.S., has signed a 10-year lease for 7,042 s/ft at 20 Jay Street in Brooklyn for its New York Studio Program.

The New York studio program allows students from member schools to spend a semester in New York with art and design professionals. For the last 20 years AICAD had occupied approximately 4,000 square feet at 441-453 Greenwich Street in Manhattan. That building was sold last year and is currently being converted to residential.

Neil Lipinski, senior managing director and principal, and Steve Hirsch, associate, of Colliers ABR represented AICAD in the transaction. Caroline Thebaud, associate director of Leasing of Two Trees Management, represented Brooklake Associates LLC, the building owner.

"It was important to find a non-corporate space with good light and good ceiling height to accommodate AICAD,"

said Neil Lipinski. "We couldn't find anything in the budget in Manhattan, so we looked to the boroughs. DUMBO was a natural location with a well-earned reputation for catering to nonprofit organizations and the artist community."
