Mohamed Al Mahdi, 32, from Muharraq, was the recipient of the most prestigious art award of the kingdom - the Al Dana prize at the 34th annual fine-art exhibition. One of the most important Biennales is an art exhibition that takes place for three months in Venice — the Venice Biennale — but there are numerous others: Well known Bahraini artist, Abbas, 55, also from Budaiya, will be showing some of his old market scenes in his unique and well recognised style in acrylic paints on canvas. Ali Khamees, 47, from Budaiya, has a background of a photographer. Using his special etching technique he is displaying eight compositions that bring forth the relationship of black and white. He has also exhibited widely and has won international awards. Abstract artist Zaman Jassim's work is influenced by calligraphic cal·lig·ra·phy n. 1. a. The art of fine handwriting. b. Originally from Al Khobar, Zaman, 37, is recognised for his style of adding elaborate and colourful design elements to traditional costumes on his canvas. The exhibition will run until December 6.
