Artists, Songwriters Affiliated With Gaylord Entertainment Receive 21 Dove Awards From Gospel Music Association.


NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 29, 1999--Artists, songwriters and creative staffers from the Idea Entertainment division of Gaylord Entertainment Company Gaylord Entertainment Company (NYSE: GET) operates a number of hotel, resort, and media companies.

:GET) received 21 of this year's Dove Awards, the most prestigious industry awards in gospel and contemporary Christian music Contemporary Christian Music (or CCM; also by its religious neutral term Inspirational music) is a genre of popular music which is lyrically focused on matters concerned with the Christian faith. .

Virtually all of the top Dove Awards categories--including Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Male and Female Vocalists of the Year, and Group of the Year--were garnered by artists affiliated with Idea Entertainment. Idea Entertainment encompasses Word Entertainment and its numerous record labels, plus Blanton/Harrell Entertainment, one of the industry's top artist management firms.

The awards, an annual program of the Gospel Music Association The Gospel Music Association (GMA) was founded in 1964 for the purpose of supporting and promoting the development of all forms of Gospel music. There are currently more than 4,200 members worldwide. , were presented March 24 at the Nashville Arena. A telecast of the awards gala is in national syndication through April 12. Blanton/Harrell artist Michael W. Smith, one of contemporary Christian music's most popular performers, won his first Artist of the Year award in addition to three others--Producer of the Year, Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year for Live the Life and Special Event Album of the Year for his part in Exodus.

 Records artist, was named Songwriter of the Year, and "My Deliverer," which he co-wrote with Mitch McVicker, was named Song of the Year. Other Word artists with top Dove Awards were Point Of Grace, Group of the Year; Jaci Velasquez, Female Vocalist of the Year; and Chris Rice, Male Vocalist of the Year.

Word Entertainment creatives staffers won three Dove Awards. Dan Posthuma won for co-producing one of the Spanish Language Albums of the Year; art director Beth Lee won the Dove for Recorded Music Packaging; and David Guthrie shared the Dove for creating the Musical of the Year.
