Artist who breathes life into bronze.

THE WEATHER HAD BEEN acting like a curiosity for the better part of the last week but on Friday evening, the mood was upbeat at the opening of the new exhibition of bronze sculptures by K. S. Radhakrishnan at the Lalit Kala Akademi The Lalit Kala Akademi is India's National Academy of Art. Founded shortly after India became independent, its mission is to support fine arts in India. Those who ascended to the first floor of the Rabindra Bhawan galleries to take a look at the highlight of the evening, a colossal 60- foot sculpture, were rendered speechless at the sight of a sea of bronze humanity.

The biggest sculpture, which consists of seven bronze figures in various states of frozen motion towering over tiny figurines at the base, best typified the exhibition's theme -- that humans constantly try to reach a space they think is better than where they are.

The other sculptures, placed methodically all over, were no less worthy. The exhibition, a good break from painting shows happening all over the city, is worth a visit for its sheer scale and for insights into the ways in which bronze has been used by Radhakrishnan.
