Artist cooks up culture in a tin can of scouse; Plinth show reveals history of city.Byline: SAMANTHA PARKER AN ARTIST used her hour on Anthony Gormley's Fourth Plinth to comment on society and Liverpool's year as European Capital of Culture. Cecilia Kinnear's three-part performance took place yesterday between 5am and 6am as part of Antony Gormley's One & Other which runs until October 14. Miss Kinnear who is originally from London but now lives in Hope Street and sees herself as an adopted Scouser, said: "I think I had the most amazing hour of the day. When I was doing my stint the sky turned from night to day. It was really lovely. "I split the performance into three parts. The first part was a social commentary looking at the banking crisis and MPs' expenses. "The middle part was dedicated to Liverpool and the city's history. "I see myself as an adopted Scouser after moving here from London 10 years ago. "I addressed the history of scouse scouse n. 1. A lobscouse. 2. a. often Scous·er A native or resident of Liverpool, England. b. often Scouse The dialect of English spoken in Liverpool. , and why Scousers are called Scousers. I also introduced my 2008 Biennial work which was a play on Andy Warhol's art works. "I used the 08 logo on a can of scouse as a pastiche pastiche (păstēsh`, pä–), work of art that combines themes and styles from various sources in such a way as to appear obviously derivative. to the Capital of Culture year. Can you brand a city and put it into a can? "My third part was a dance. I looked at how people in call centres are viewed, as I have worked in one. "I really enjoyed being on the plinth, I was surprised at how many people were watching. I think they enjoyed it." The Anthony Gormley Fourth Plinth sees ordinary people from the UK occupy the empty Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square Trafalgar Square, in Westminster, London, England, named for Lord Nelson's victory at the battle of Trafalgar. The statue surmounting the Nelson memorial column (185 ft/56 m high) was sculpted (1840–43) by E. H. Baily. in London, a space normally reserved for statues of kings and generals, in an image of themselves, and a representation of the whole of humanity. Every hour, 24 hours a day, for 100 days without a break, different people will make the plinth their own.
