Artisoft and Toshiba Expand Strategic Partnership; Companies Extend Agreement to Deliver Advanced Communications Solutions through 2003.

Artisoft(R), Inc. (NASDAQ: ASFT), developer of the first software-based phone system, and Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. Telecommunication Systems Division (TAIS TSD), today announced that they have extended by an additional year their strategic relationship to deliver advanced communications systems. The companies are jointly developing and delivering turnkey communications solutions that combine voice and data technologies to help businesses improve their customer service and increase employee productivity.

The original agreement, which was signed on January 18, 2000 and scheduled to expire on January 18, 2003, includes a minimum revenue guarantee of $5.0 million, $3.0 million of which has been received. All responsibilities and obligations of the agreement remain unchanged, except that the remaining unpaid minimum revenue guarantee of $2.0 million will be received quarterly through September 30, 2003.

According to a May 2001 study by Gartner-Dataquest, Toshiba is the 3rd largest provider of phone systems in the United States. Further, Gartner-Dataquest reports that converged switching systems are gaining market share from traditional proprietary PBXs and key systems, and predicts the worldwide market for converged switching systems to reach a market size of approximately $5.9 billion by 2005.
