Artisoft Announces BizFax Network Fax Software; New Software Delivers Fax Capabilities Cost Effectively Across Small Business LANS.

TUCSON, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 25, 1998--Artisoft, Inc. (NASDAQ:ASFT) today announced BizFax(tm), the company's fax software application that allows users to send, receive and store faxes using their networked desktop PCs. The BizFax client software integrates with popular Microsoft(R) Windows-based desktop applications including Microsoft Word, Excel and Explorer and also includes a stand-alone user interface. BizFax software includes client/server components that run on Windows NT or Win95/98.

"With BizFax, users can rely on already-familiar Windows-based applications such as Microsoft Word to create a document and quickly send it as a fax," said Scott Moule, vice president and general manager for Artisoft's communications software group. "BizFax's simple graphical user interface allows users to receive, annotate, file or broadcast fax transmissions from their desktop PCs. Early beta testers were impressed by the product's ease-of-use, including BizFax's ability to recall stored faxes based on a keyword search."

Any Windows document can be faxed using the document application's own print option and BizFax's "plug-in" fax module. From the document print window, BizFax automatically launches a "send fax" dialog box. Inserting a fax number and clicking the "send fax" button completes the task. BizFax can send individual faxes or broadcast multiple faxes simultaneously. Users can create personalized broadcast faxes, including personal addresses, openings and remarks by merging standard word processor files with a fax distribution list. Once BizFax completes its transmission, the application automatically e-mails a report, including a miniature copy of the fax, to the user.

BizFax can automatically route inbound faxes to individual user mailboxes based on a number of criteria, including: fax I.D. information, PBX direct inward dialing (DID) information and optical character readings for key words in the faxed document. Once received, users can view fax documents through BizFax's stand-alone user interface. Inbound faxes can be electronically edited, annotated or signed without any need to print the original document. Edited faxes can then be rerouted much like an e-mail message using "reply" and "forward" buttons. To retrieve archived faxes, users can rely on BizFax's optical character reader (OCR) feature to locate old fax documents based on a keyword search.

Pricing and Availability

BizFax is delivered in 5-, 10-, 25-, 50- and 100-user versions. Pricing begins at $299 MSRP. BizFax will be available in late December through distributors, resellers and mail order catalogs.
