Articulate Systems Announces the PowerSecretary for Macintosh Product Family; Includes general purpose Power Edition, application-specific WordPerfect Edition and healthcare-customized MED version.
With the introduction of the Macintosh product family, ASI now offers a complete line of Windows(TM) and Macintosh versions of PowerSecretary. The PowerSecretary for Macintosh family enables users to dictate free-form text directly into their Macintosh applications at rates up to 55 correct words per minute in addition to controlling the applications by voice command. All products in the PowerSecretary family are shipping immediately and are available through ASI's Authorized Reseller Network.
Building on its long-standing and close relationship with Apple Computer, ASI has recently focused on creating a range of new speech applications and solutions that take advantage of Apple's new line of Power Macintosh(TM) computers. Ross Ely, Apple Product marketing manager, says, "Apple fully supports Articulate's efforts to bring to market great technology and applications in the area of speech recognition. In combination with the advanced RISC capabilities of our Power Macintosh systems, Apple customers now have a wide array of advanced speech-centric solutions to choose from depending on their specific needs."
According to Peter Durlach, ASI's executive vice president, "With the release of our PowerSecretary product family, we have extended ASI's long-term commitment to our Macintosh customers to provide them with leading-edge voice technology and solutions at varying price/performance levels."
PowerSecretary was the first and remains the only speech dictation system for Macintosh. Originally introduced with version 1.0 in April 1994, it builds on ASI's eight years of experience with its award winning Voice Navigator(R) product line, the first system developed that enabled users to control applications in a graphical user interface using voice commands. (Apple's own PlainTalk(TM) is another example of such a command-and-control-only system.) The new PowerSecretary family is based on version 2.0.3 of the core application and includes the following:
PowerSecretary Power Edition -- The premier, all-purpose version
of PowerSecretary. Power Edition is designed for users who need
to dictate into multiple applications and who want the largest
general-purpose, active vocabulary available (60,000 words)
for their work. The Power Edition retails for $2,495.
PowerSecretary WordPerfect Edition -- The entry-level version of
PowerSecretary specially designed to work exclusively with the
WordPerfect word processor. It features all of the capabilities
of the Power Edition except that it only works with WordPerfect
and it comes with an active vocabulary of 30,000 words. The
WordPerfect Edition retails for $995.
PowerSecretary MED -- The version specifically designed for
healthcare professionals from all major areas of medicine. It
combines all of the capabilities of the Power Edition with an
additional 60,000 medical terms, their acoustic models and a
customized language model for healthcare. PowerSecretary MED
retails for $3,000.
