Arthur F. Sullivan, 90.


HOLDEN Arthur F. Sullivan, 90, of Holden, a longtime educator, died Tuesday, Jan. 29. His wife, Brenda T. (Trelegan) Sullivan, R.N., died in 1982.

He leaves his son, Neil A. Sullivan of Wilmington; two granddaughters, Erica and Kristen; and a sister, Shirley E. Hayes of Worcester. He was born in Worcester, son of Dennis W. and Elizabeth A. (McAuley) Sullivan. He graduated from Worcester Classical High School and the College of the Holy Cross The College of the Holy Cross is an exclusively undergraduate Roman Catholic liberal arts college located in Worcester, Massachusetts, USA. Holy Cross is the oldest Roman Catholic college in New England and one of the oldest in the United States.  in 1939. He received a Masters of Arts in Education Arts in Education is an expanding field of educational research and practice informed by investigations into learning through arts experiences. It is distinguished from art education by being not so much about teaching art, but focused on:
 degree from Clark University Clark University, at Worcester, Mass.; coeducational; chartered 1887, opened as a graduate school 1889. It was the second graduate school to be formed in the United States. Its undergraduate college (est. 1902) was integrated with the university in 1920.  and a Doctor of Education degree from Boston University in 1954. He was a Army Air Corps. Veteran of WW II.

He began his teaching career at Lancaster High School Lancaster High School may refer to:

 and also taught at David Prouty High School in Spencer. He entered the Worcester Public Schools in 1950 and taught at Providence St. Junior High School and at South High School. In 1958, he was appointed to the position of Director of research, and in 1962 to Assistant Superintendent for Educational Functions. He subsequently served as clerk of the School Committee and as Associate Superintendent for Research and Development until his retirement in 1979. At that time the School Committee named the new Middle School after him.

He was a member of St. Georges Church and its Eucharistic Shrine, Alhambra Council Knights of Columbus Knights of Columbus, American Roman Catholic society for men, founded (1882) at New Haven, Conn. (where its headquarters are still located), by Father Michael J. McGivney.  #88, the Bishop OReilly Assembly, 4th Degree, the Greendale Retired Mens Club, the Catholic Alumni Sodality of Our Lady The Sodality of Our Lady (also known as the Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary (in Latin, Congregationes seu sodalitates B. Mariæ Virginis) is an association of Catholics founded in 1563 in the Roman College of the Society of Jesus.  and the Purple Knights of the College of the Holy Cross and other professional organizations.

The funeral will be Saturday, February 2 from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Georges Church, 38 Brattle brat·tle   Scots
