) today launched the MultiVac(TM) XL ArthroWand(R), designed to facilitate arthroscopic hip procedures. Approximately 100,000 arthroscopic hip procedures are performed annually and, until now, few products have been available to specifically address this surgical market. The company believes the MultiVac XL disposable device can increase the number of arthroscopic hip procedures performed because it improves access, flexibility and visibility for surgeons as well as potentially improves patient outcomes.

The MultiVac XL device is an addition to the company's popular Arthroscopy Arthroscopy Definition

"One of ArthroCare's key strategic initiatives is to facilitate the growth of surgical markets by offering new and better tools for procedures that have traditionally been difficult to perform," said Michael A. He is responsible for the coordination of program operations, integration and flight crew training and support , ArthroCare's president and chief executive officer. "We believe the improved access and ease of use of the MultiVac XL combined with the proven clinical benefits of Coblation technology in arthroscopy have the potential to increase the number of arthroscopic hip procedures performed, providing relief to a greater number of patients who suffer from hip injuries."

ArthroCare's soft-tissue surgery systems allow surgeons to operate with increased precision and accuracy, limiting damage to surrounding tissue thereby potentially reducing pain and speeding recovery for the patient. The company's products operate at lower temperatures than traditional electrosurgical or laser surgery tools, and enable surgeons to remove or shrink soft tissue and to seal bleeding vessels.
