Artha Graha Group or also known as Artha Graha Network was founded by Tommy Winata, an ethnic Chinese business tycoon from Pontianak, West Kalimantan. He is known to have strong relations with a number of senior military leaders from who he could rely support.
The company was established with the name of PT. Danayasa Arthatama in 1987 as a real estate firm. The company grew fast with flourishing property business. It built many property projects and hotels in Jakarta and Bali.
In 1991, PT Jakarta International Hotels and Development (JIHD) Tbk, which was 15.87% owned by Tommy, acquired 82.41% of PT Danayasa Arthatama.
Other owners of JIHD are Sugianto Kusuma (9.76%), Santoso Gunara (0.40%) and other shareholders including foreign shareholders owning 20.65%.
In 2002, PT. Danayasa Arthatama launched Initial Public Offering (IPO) floating part of its shares on the Jakarta Stock Exchange. In 2011, the company had assets valued at Rp3.47 trillion. Currently its shareholders include PT. JIHD Tbk 82,4%, investing public 17.58% and other investors.
Currently Artha Graha Network has 14 subsidiaries operating in various business areas including property, banking, infrastructure, mining, telecommunication services, agribusiness, etc.
Property Main Business
Artha Graha Network (AGN), through its subsidiary PT Danayasa Arthatama Tbk (PT. DA Tbk), has built a super block, Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD) over a 45 hectare plot of land divided into 25 lots at Jl. Jendral Sudirman, Jakarta.
Property buildings in the SCBD are include the Indonesian Stock Exchange at lot 2, Equity Tower at lot 9, 18 Parc consisting of 5 towers each with 10 floors. Each tower has a total of 5,000 square meters of rented office rooms. Artha Graha Building is located at lot 25 consisting of 29 floors with a floor space of 42,000 square meters.
The company also owns Global Tower over an area of 8,068 square meters with floor space of 22,163 square meters at Jl. Gatot Subroto, and Mangga Dua Square in Jakarta with 4,000 kiosks and parking lot for 8,000 cars. It has also built Discovery Shopping Mall in Kuta, Bali over an area of 38,082 square meters consisting of a three-floor building with floor space of 80,000 square meters.
PT DA Tbk plans to build the country's tallest building to be named Signature Tower to cost around US$ 2 billion to be completed in 2017. AGN will team up with MGM Hospitality from the United States to build a luxurious hotel in the building. In Las Vegas, the United States, there is a Signature Tower with 111 floors, 638 meters tall.
Signature Tower in Jakarta will be built at Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD). It will have the same number of floors and height as the one in Las Vegas. It will be the 5th tallest tower in the world. MGM Hospitality with the brand of Bellagio Hotel will operate the luxurious 290-room hotel to occupy 20 highest floors of Signature Tower. Office rooms would occupy 70 of the lower floors.
MGM Hospitality will also operate 350 hotel rooms and service apartments in a southern tower in the complex of Signature Tower, using the brand of MGM Grand Hotel and Service Apartment. MGM will also operate MGM Convention Center Jakarta having a floor space of 5,000 square meters which could accommodate up to 6,000 people. MGM has a network which operates a Convention Center in Las Vegas, Detroit, Beijing, Tianjin, Macau, Mumbai, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Dhoha, and Cairo.
PT. Jakarta International Hotel & Development Tbk operates Hotel Borobudur, Jakarta over a 10 hectare plot of land in the capital city. Hotel Borobudur has 695 rooms and 103 apartment units of Garden Wing.
The five-star hotel has a ball room with a capacity of 1,200 people and 20 units of conference room that could be used for meeting, dinner, exhibition, gala or wedding receptions.
Discovery Kartika Plaza Hotel is a beach hotel at Kuta Selatan beach in Bali with 312 rooms and 6 villa suites in Balinese architecture. The hotel has facilities for banquet and convention with a capacity of 350-800 people, and a spacious Ballroom wide enough for meetings, etc.
The Hotel Prameswari, located at Cipanas mountain resort in West Java, occupies a total land area of 18,559 square meters. The hotel consists of two towers with 145 rooms, restaurant, swimming pool and a convention hall.
Through a consortium of PT. Graha Banten Lampung Sejahtera which included PT Bangungraha Mulia Sejahtea, a subsidiary of AGG, the provincial administrations of Banten and Lampung will build a 29 kilometer bridge spanning the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra. The distance separating the two islands could be covered in 1.5 hours by car if the country's longest bridge has been completed. Normally ferry ship serving transport between the southern end of Sumatra and western end of Java takes two hours to cover the distance.
The bridge would be built with the latest technology of aerodynamic deck and flexible poles. The bridge will include two parts of ultra long hanging bridges each 2,200 meters long making it the longest hanging bridge in the world.
PT. Artha Telekomindo (Arthatel) was established in 1993. Arthatel is a provider of telecommunication system and network for the SCBD area. The service it offers is in the form of SCBDNet, which uses router, switch, firewalls, high performing transmission equipment and pleonastic from Cisco System, Juniper network and ECI Telecom.
PT. Danatel Pratama was established in 1991 to operate in security system as a distributor of security products. This company distributes products like CCTV System, Fire Alarm, Access Control, Building Automation System and the like. The company also provides services like designs, installation, contracting services and maintenance services.
PT. Electronic City (EC) Indonesia was established in 2001 operating in electronic retail business selling electronic goods like TV sets, radio receivers, washing machines, refrigerators, AC, net books, notebooks, hand phones, etc. Its first outlet or flagship store with floor space of 4,000 square meters, was launched with an exhibition concept in the SCBD, Jakarta.
Currently EC has 16 outlet in Java and Sumatra. In 2012 Electronic City plans to open 5 new outlets in Mal Matahari Daan Mogot, West Jakarta, Pamulang Terrace, Plaza Cibubur, Cibinong Square, and Depok Town Square.
Bank Artha Graha was formerly PT. Inter-Pacific Financial Corporation established in 1973. In 1990, it was listed on the Jakarta Stock Exchange. In 1992, the name of the company was changed with PT. Inter-Pacific Financial Corporation, also known as PT. Inter-Pacific Bank. In 2005, the name of the bank was changed again with PT. Bank Artha Graha Internasional.
In 2011, Bank Artha Graha had assets valued at Rp 19.2 trillion or an increase of 12.4% from Rp17.1 trillion in the previous year. Its outstanding credits rose 19.9 percent to Rp13.4 trillion in 2011 from Rp11.2 trillion in 2010. By the end of 2012, Bank Artha Graha targeted to have a credit outstanding at Rp 14.5 trillion.
By the end of 2012 Bank Artha Graha launched rights issue selling 4.513 billion shares to raise Rp500.964 billion in fresh fund to be used for human resources development and to finance the opening of 20 new branch offices.
Currently Bank Artha Graha has 35 branch offices and 44 auxiliary branch offices in a number of large cities in Indonesia.
PT. Sumber Alam Sejahtera (PT. SAS) established in 2003 with the name of PT. Sumber Alam Sultra in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi. In 2004, its names was changed with PT. Sumber Alam Sejahtera to operate in the cultivation of high yield rice seeds with cultivation field in Lampung. In 2004, PT. SAS cooperated in the development of hybrid rice with Guo Hao Seed Industries, Co, Ltd from China.
Currently PT. SAS sells a number of types of high yield hybrid rice seeds known with the brands of Bernas Rokan, Bernas Super and Bernas Prima. Bernas hybrid rice seeds could produce 8-12 tons of rice per hectare by growing 15 kg of seeds per hectare. Non hybrid rice seeds could produce only 4-7 tons of rice per hectare using 35 kg of seeds per hectare.
Up to 2008, Bernas rice seeds of PT. SAS had been planted in 239,602 hectares of rice fields all over Indonesia.
PT. Multiagro Pangan Lestari (PT. MPL) was established in 2008 to operate in agribusiness. In the beginning it was named PT Panca Mahkota Lestari, but in 2009, the name was changed with PT Multiagro Pangan Lestari, operating in Jonggol, West Java.
PT MPL develops beef cattle farm and cattle feed lot. In 2010, the company had 555 cows including 482 Brahman X cows from Australia and 73 Bali cows as local high bred cows. It raised 102 cows in feel lots.
PT. Maritim Timur Jaya has developed and operates the first industrial estate in eastern Indonesia. The 140 hectare industrial estate is located in Tual, Southeast Maluku. It is a special location for integrated industry (KIMI) to support fishery industry from upstream to downstream sectors.
KIMI consists of 9 hectares for quay area, ice processing plant, ice storehouse, processing factory, cold storage and warehouses and 131 hectares for supporting facility such as power plant, drinking water supply facility and dam, fuel tanks, office buildings and other facilities. The area could be developed further for shipyards, fish meal processing plant, hotel, airport, etc.
PT. Harmoni Nirwana Lestari (HNL) has developed 420 hectares of tea plantation in Bungbangsari, Cianjur, West Java. The plantation area includes 25 hectares for facilities and 20 hectares for conservation area.
PT. HNL has received the certificates of ISO 14001:2004 and ISO 22000:2005 for good quality of dry green tea processing management. PT. HNL also has poultry, goat and duck farms and corn and rice fields, orange, mango and durian plantations.
AGG has a 22,917 hectare of gold mining concession in Southeast Sulawesi.
PT. Graha Kreasi Tekstil (PT. GKT) produces garments with a factory of 450 units of machines. Its products include trousers and skirts averaging 150,000 pieces per month. PT. GKT has customers among world class garment producers with brands like S. Oliver, Esprit, Express, J.Crew, Grey-Batu, Quicksilver, Billabong, Ripcurl, etc. All production of PT. GKT is for exports especially to Europe and the United States.
PT. Danayasa Arthatama (PT. DA) as the largest subsidiary of AGN is the biggest contributor to the income of the group. PT. DA operates a number of property buildings including the Indonesian Stock Exchange building, Equity Tower, Pacific Place, etc. located at the SCBD at jl. Jendral Sudirman, Jakarta. In 2011 PT. DA posted an operating income from SCBD at Rp688.9 billion down from Rp1.11 trillion in 2010.
Cost of goods sold fell 61.24% to Rp195.7 billion with cost of goods sold of Equity Tower also down. Operating cost rose 8.5% from Rp353.8 billion to Rp382.9 billion in 2011.
Its operating profit also fell from Rp254 billion to Rp110.3 billion mainly on shrinking income from real estate service and an increase in operating cost.
In 2011, the assets of PT. DA rose 0.08% to Rp3.478 trillion from Rp3,475 trillion
