Artes Medical Announces Appointment of Christopher J. Reinhard as Chairman of Board of Directors.

SAN DIEGO -- Artes Medical Inc., a privately-held specialty pharmaceutical and medical device company, today announced the appointment of Christopher J. Reinhard as Chairman of the Board of Directors. Reinhard, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Collateral Therapeutics, joins the existing board members as they direct Artes toward the commercialization of its lead product ArteFill, the first permanent injectable wrinkle filler to successfully complete U.S. FDA clinical trials.

Artes Medical recently received an approvable letter from the FDA for ArteFill.

"We are proud to have Chris Reinhard joining our organization as we accelerate into the commercialization phase of ArteFill. Chris' expertise will be invaluable as we prepare for a worldwide market launch early next year and an exit strategy for our investors," commented Dr. Stefan M. Lemperle, M.D., co-founder and CEO of Artes Medical.

Reinhard brings ten years of biotechnology executive leadership to the Artes Medical Board. In 1995, Reinhard co-founded Collateral Therapeutics, a San Diego-based biotechnology company utilizing technology licensed from the University of California, San Diego to develop non-surgical cardiovascular gene therapeutics. Reinhard steered Collateral through a strategic partnership with pharmaceutical company Schering AG and an initial public offering in 1998. When Collateral successfully completed early clinical studies and was acquired by Schering AG in 2002, Reinhard became the company's Chief Executive Officer. Prior to founding Collateral, Reinhard was a merchant banking and venture investment executive and an executive officer of the Henley Group, Fisher Scientific and Imed Corporation. Reinhard received a B.S. and MBA from Babson College.

"Artes Medical has made significant advances in the development of its proprietary technology platform. I look forward to building on this success as we establish the company's new San Diego GMP manufacturing facility and bring the company's lead product ArteFill to market. With an aging population, interest in new and innovative personal aesthetics products continues to rapidly expand. Our strategy to secure U.S. regulatory approval for ArteFill as a permanent injectable dermal filler for the treatment of facial wrinkles and scars is expected to provide our patented product with strong competitive advantages in the U.S. and international markets," stated Reinhard.
