Artecon Completes Acquisition Of Falcon Systems; Leadership Position In Open-Systems Storage Market Strengthened With Purchase.

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 21, 1997--Artecon, a leading manufacturer and systems integrator specializing in open-systems products and solutions, Thursday announced the acquisition of Sacramento, Calif.-based Falcon Systems Inc., a leading specialized server and storage manufacturer and supplier with revenues last year of approximately $55 million.

"We are delighted to announce this expansion of our presence in the enterprise storage market," said James Lambert, president and chief executive officer of Artecon. "Falcon has excellent network storage technology, loyal customers and an aggressive field sales force. Add these to Artecon's strong market presence, product innovations, and channel dominance and we have a significantly more formidable player in an increasingly competitive market."

The acquisition will result in a stronger focus on the customer and a broader range of scalable and reliable storage server solutions. Falcon's network file server, FastfilePro, connects storage and peripheral resources to TCP/IP-NFS and Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking.  computer networks to deliver rapid file access. The combination of FastfilePro with Artecon's industry-leading LynxArray and LynxStak RAID systems, as well as Artecon products currently under development, underscores Artecon's commitment to provide compelling enterprise-level storage solutions.

"Artecon has the infrastructure, vision, and market reputation to carry our specialized network file server technology to an even stronger position in the network storage market," said Craig Caudill, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Falcon Systems. "This acquisition will also mean greater support for all our customers." Caudill will be joining Artecon's board of directors effective immediately.

The combined company will operate under the Artecon Inc. name with more than 200 employees and yield annual revenues in excess of $120 million. While the two companies have been strong competitors, there is relatively little customer overlap. Artecon expects to leverage Falcon's existing field sales force to enhance support of customers, as well as increase market opportunities for its Lynx lynx, name given to several related small, ferocious members of the cat family.
