ArtServe Michigan's Arts Alive Day 2004; Arts Advocates Focus on Ways to Build Support for Arts and Culture in Michigan.

SOUTHFIELD, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 3, 2004

Arts advocates from around the state will meet in Lansing for ArtServe Michigan's Arts Alive Day 2004, Tuesday, March 9 at 9:00 a.m. The meeting held at the Lansing Center The Lansing Center, officially the Lansing Convention Center, is the primary and largest convention center in Lansing, Michigan. The center is located along Michigan Avenue, with its western facade fronting the Grand River, which includes a riverfront plaza that hosts outdoor  will bring arts advocates together to work on ways to develop partnerships with state and local officials and organizations in an effort to build support for arts and culture in Michigan Michigan (mĭsh`ĭgən), upper midwestern state of the United States. It consists of two peninsulas thrusting into the Great Lakes and has borders with Ohio and Indiana (S), Wisconsin (W), and the Canadian province of Ontario (N,E). .

In February at the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs' "Creating Cool" conference Governor Granholm laid out her vision for the future of arts and culture in Michigan and called for the arts and cultural community to use their unique capabilities to increase support for the arts in Michigan.

 Barbara Kratchman, president of ArtServe Michigan, host of Arts Alive Day 2004: Imagining the Power of Arts and Culture in Michigan, "We have heard the Governor's message and we understand what we need to do to make arts and culture a vital part of Michigan's communities."

Kratchman continued "Arts Alive Day will give us the opportunity to meet as a group and map out strategies that will help the arts and cultural community survive during this time of budget deficits and decreased funding."

The public is invited to attend Arts Alive Day 2004, as well as sign the newly released Michigan Accords for Arts, Culture and Humanities at the event in Lansing or online at www.artservemichigan.org.
