 Graffiti Abatement Program is hosting Art in the Park, showcasing the "Difference Between Art and Graffiti" at Valleydale Park, 5525 N. Lark Ellen Avenue, Azusa, CA, Saturday, January 22, 2005, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Art in the Park, presented in association with the Department of Parks and Recreation, will feature over 20 exhibitors, lots of food, entertainment and fun.

The main event of the day is a free art contest for young artists, 25 years of age and younger. Under 18 may enter with parent or guardian approval. Artists will be competing to place their designs on a Kevin Conway's race car that will race at California Speedway The California Speedway is a two-mile, low-banked, D-shaped oval superspeedway in Fontana, California, similar to that of "sister track" Michigan International Speedway. It is located approximately 40 miles east of Los Angeles on the site of the former Kaiser Steel mill.  on February 26, 2005. All entries in the art contest will highlight the "Difference Between Art and Graffiti" and will be judged by a combined panel of art museum staff, art instructors and professional artists that may represent institutions such as the County of Los Angeles Arts Council, Los Angeles County Museum of Art The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, also known as LACMA, is the official and world-renowned art museum of the County of Los Angeles, California, located on Wilshire Boulevard along Museum Row in the Miracle Mile vicinity of Los Angeles. , and the Petersen Automotive Museum The Petersen Automotive Museum is located on Wilshire Boulevard along Museum Row in the Miracle Mile neighborhood of Los Angeles. One of the world's largest automotive museums, the Petersen Automotive Museum is a non-profit organization specializing in the education and history of .

Entries will be judged on the following criteria:

--Overall creativity/originality

--Composition

--Techniques/Use of media

--Concept development

--Appropriateness to the "Difference Between Art and Graffiti" theme

All entries must be two-dimensional pieces of art and on the Official contest temple that is on a paper no larger than 8.5" x 11". Only Paper, Tempera tempera (tĕm`pərə), painting method in which finely ground pigment is mixed with a solidifying base such as albumen, fig sap, or thin glue. , Crayons, Markers and watercolor (No oils or acrylics) can be used to create artwork. All artwork must be the original design and work of the participant.

The actual dates of contest are from December 13, 2004-February 4, 2005, however participating artists can turn in their designs at the park, or mail an official entry no later than February 1, 2005, to "The Difference Between Art and Graffiti, 5901 Venice Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90034. Complete rules are available on line at www.4tagla.com , County of Los Angeles Public Libraries, County of Los Angeles Parks, Rite Aid, or the day of the event.
