L'Auberge de Sedona Presents the Sedona Arts Center's 2007 Festival

SEDONA, Ariz. -- The Sedona Arts Center's Plein Air plein air or plein-air

 Festival 2007 presented by L'Auberge de Sedona promises to be an unforgettable week of celebrating outdoor painting. The French word, en plein air En plein air is a French expression which means "in the open air", and is particularly used to describe the act of painting in the outside environment rather than indoors (such as in a studio). , translates to "in the open air" or alfresco in Italian. Painters in the late 1800's became fascinated by capturing normal, average people doing everyday activities with a particular interest in the changing of colors and light in the outdoors. There is no better place to explore the possibilities of changing light and color than Sedona and Northern Arizona Northern Arizona is dominated by the Colorado Plateau, the southern border of which in Arizona is called the Mogollon Rim. In the West lies the Grand Canyon, which was cut by the flow of the Colorado River while the land slowly rose around it.  in October.

This marathon week of painting will be held from October 21(st) through October 28(th) with new artists and returning favorites, new events and a new presenting sponsor. The week will culminate on Saturday, October 27th, with a Gala/Exhibition in the luxurious L'Auberge de Sedona ballroom featuring the artists' top three paintings completed during the week. A Public Art Sale of the artists' paintings will be held Sunday, October 28th at the Sedona Arts Center's galleries.

Prestigious artists include:

John Cogan, an award-winning artist who follows his own counsel to "paint what you know," painting the western landscapes that he has loved since he was a boy.

Marcia Burtt is a founding partner of SCAPE (Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  Artists Painting for the Environment) through which she has helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to preserve open spaces.

Tom Lynch Thomas Frank Lynch (born May 24, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois) is a former American football guard in the National Football League for the Seattle Seahawks and the Buffalo Bills. Lynch played college football at Boston College. , one of the nation's premier watercolorists, whose uniquely-styled landscape paintings seem to push somewhere beyond what the environment naturally provides.
