Byline: Jim Feehan The Register-Guard

VENETA - Joanne Jene sampled some Pinot noirs and Rieslings, bought a piece of pottery and helped with some owner's pet bills - all in a Sunday's afternoon.

Oftentimes the high cost of treatment can mean the difference between life and death for a pet, said foundation founder and president Megan Bendtzen.

The setting was hard to beat, with artwork and pottery displayed in the wine cellar, surrounded by large holding tanks, French oak barrels and cases of wine.

"This is a great opportunity to help the foundation, view good art and sample great wine," said Jene, who was visiting Lane County after reading a story in Sunset magazine touting tourist destinations between Eugene and Florence.

Jene ended up buying a bowl she said complemented a watercolor she bought earlier in the day in Veneta.
