Arrow Electronics Named One of "100 Best Companies to Work For".

MELVILLE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 21, 1998--Arrow Electronics, Inc. (NYSE:ARW) has been named one of the "100 Best Companies to Work For," by FORTUNE Magazine. The world's largest distributor of electronic components and computer products, Arrow has more than 9,000 employees worldwide.

"In today's market, attracting and retaining talented people is one of our toughest challenges," said Stephen P. Kaufman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Arrow, "and we have been devoting a great deal of time and attention to our recruitment, our training, and the wide range of factors that make Arrow a preferred place for people to work. This recognition from FORTUNE tells us we're on the right track. We are gratified and honored to be included in the list."

FORTUNE commissioned Robert Levering and Milton Moskowitz, authors of "The 100 Best Companies to Work for in America," to compile the second annual listing. Levering and Moskowitz, who have been tracking the best companies since 1981, searched their database of more than 1,000 companies and selected 295 companies as the most viable candidates. Of this group, 206 agreed to participate in the selection process. To be eligible, all companies must have more than 500 employees and have been in business for at least 10 years.

Employees of the selected companies completed the Great Place to Work Trust Index, designed to evaluate trust in management, pride in work, and camaraderie, along with the Hewitt People Practices Inventory, a 31-page questionnaire developed by Hewitt Associates, a respected management consulting firm. Firms were also asked to submit company newsletters, employee handbooks, and videos.

Candidates were rated on a 175-point scale, based on responses from the employee survey, the written comments, the Inventory questionnaire and the supporting materials. Arrow ranked number 74.

Arrow Electronics is the world's largest distributor of electronic components and computer products, with 1997 sales of $7.8 billion. Headquartered in Melville, New York, Arrow serves as a supply channel partner for more than 600 suppliers and 160,000 original equipment manufacturers and commercial customers through more than 200 sales facilities and 26 distribution centers in 32 countries.
