"Becoming an IBM Business Partner is one of the most rewarding endeavors a reseller can undertake, but there is an incredible amount of information that must be mastered. Going it alone can be an enormous and overwhelming task. With Arrow's targeted support and training, our newest resellers will be up and selling in no time," said Eric Williams, executive vice president, Support Net Division. Through the SmartStart program, Arrow is identifying new Business Partner prospects -- typically resellers with at least $10 million in annual HP or Sun server sales and a desire to broaden their portfolio with IBM servers. Once resellers are identified, Arrow will work as an advocate for the reseller to get IBM's support and approval for them to become an IBM Business Partner. The second part of the SmartStart program is focused on helping these newly approved resellers shorten the time it takes to successfully sell IBM products. The enablement portion of the SmartStart program lasts six months, beginning with a targeted business plan developed jointly by the reseller, IBM and Arrow. Next, the reseller attends a Support Net-funded two-day course held in Indianapolis, where resellers learn about the IBM eServer brands and sales strategy, as well as how to work with Arrow on order placement, tech support, special bids, marketing and financing options. The Support Net Division held its first class February 11 and 12 for four new resellers. "It was an invaluable thing for us to have done," said Amy Kessler, account manager, GCA GCA, ground-controlled approach: see instrument-landing system. , Inc., who participated in the class. "It really gave me the grounding I needed to start on my road to becoming an IBM specialist. SmartStart resellers will identify and work end-user opportunities throughout the program with support from Arrow and IBM field sales personnel. SmartStart's goal is to move 25 - 30 new resellers through the IBM SmartStart program by year's end. About the North American North American named after North America.
