The agreement calls for Micron, through its divisions, to supply precision machined metal and thermoplastic injection molded components to Cyalume's West Springfield facility. Cyalume with Micron components completes final fabrication and assembly into training munitions for use by select U.S. and NATO forces. Cyalume supplies two versions, the MOD 0 and MOD 1, of 40mm high velocity training rounds that provide a visible, non-pyrotechnic impact signature to allow soldiers to see where they strike. When utilized in such platforms, the MK 19 and MK 47 belt fed automatic grenade launchers can fire up to 350 grenades per minute. The MOD 1 version also provides a chemiluminescent chem·i·lu·mi·nes·cence

component that allows observation of the impact signature during night fighting. The impact signatures provided by both versions are visible to the gunner's naked eye. The training round is ballistically equivalent to the actual live round and provides an accurate training tool without the higher cost or danger of live fire practice rounds. The use of completely non-pyrotechnic training projectiles also eliminates the risk of range fires and unexploded training ordinance.

Initial deliveries of the new training ordinance have been made to NATO NATO: see North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

We have worked closely with Cyalume's engineers during the design and development phase and are excited about the potential growth of this product line. Micron is proud to be associated with Cyalume's vision and ability to adapt its patented light technology for this military application which is a significant step forward in reducing the risk of death and injury to military personnel during training."
