Arrests and charges over forced abortion claim.

A STATE doctor and a 32-year-old Iranian man have been charged with attempting to force abortion through prescription drugs prescription drug Prescription medication Pharmacology An FDA-approved drug which must, by federal law or regulation, be dispensed only pursuant to a prescription–eg, finished dose form and active ingredients subject to the provisos of the Federal Food, Drug,  and conspiracy to commit a crime, after a 27-year-old Iranian woman claimed that they tried to force her to have an abortion.

The woman, who refused to have the abortion, went to the police claiming that her 32-year-old former lover and the doctor had conspired to pressure her into terminating her pregnancy.

The 32-year-old, however, denies taking the woman to the gynaecologist and claimed that a third person did. The third person was taken to police for questioning, as he had supported the suspect's claims. At questioning, however, it became clear that he was lying as he could not remember the gynaecologist's name.

Meanwhile, the gynaecologist claimed that he was led to believe that the 27-year-old had hepatitis hepatitis (hĕp'ətī`tĭs), inflammation of the liver. There are many types of hepatitis. Causes include viruses, toxic chemicals, alcohol consumption, parasites and bacteria, and certain drugs. , which is why he agreed to aid the termination.

The woman says she does not from the disease, while medical authorities noted that women with hepatitis can still give birth to healthy babies.

"There is no medical rule that states that if a woman has hepatitis she cannot become a mother or that if she falls pregnant she cannot keep the baby.

"There is a possibility that her baby will be born with hepatitis, but there is also a possibility that it is perfectly healthy," said Dr Giorgos Leondiades, President of the Cyprus Gynaecological adj. 1. Of or pertaining to gynecology; same as gynecological.

The case is presently being investigated by police and examined by the Attorney General.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has began a disciplinary investigation following information that the gynaecologist in question maintained a private practice while employed by the state.
